The Last Word Bookstore
A Bookstore for Fort Worth
Independent bookstores are a crucial part of a community's cultural, educational, and social character. Fort Worth currently has no independent bookstore, and with the loss of Barnes & Noble, downtown has no bookstore at all; we plan to change that. Books, and the worlds they open up to us, still matter in this digital age, and The Last Word Bookstore will be a "home away from home" for readers in downtown and beyond.
We will focus on and benefit from the traditional strengths of the independent bookstore - personalized and friendly service, staff knowledge of a wide selection of books, and deep ties to the community. And just as a bookstore is a community space, bringing The Last Word to life will take a community effort.
We will be starting from scratch, so to speak: books, bookcases, counters, display tables, cash registers, lighting fixtures, and myriad other things will all have to be purchased in order for us to open the doors this spring. Thus we have set a goal of $100,000.00 to cover the start-up costs and the first few months of operation.
This goal may seem lofty, but we firmly believe that with everyone’s help it is achievable. In return for your contribution, we are offering lifetime discounts on all purchases (whether made at the store or ordered for shipping). Thanks for your support and for your love of books and bookstores.
